New Delhi [India], March 28: Gujarat Science City hosted a special celebration for World Meteorological Day, attracting a large number of students. The primary objective of the event was to enhance interest in meteorology and deepen the understanding of climate science.
As part of the celebrations, Dr Hardikkumar Chaudhary delivered a lecture on “Life Through the Lens of Meteorology: Forecasting a Better Tomorrow.” He explained fundamental meteorological principles to students and highlighted the importance of weather forecasting.
Dr Chaudhary elaborated on how meteorology impacts daily life and how modern technology is making weather predictions more reliable. He also provided guidance on how students can contribute towards addressing erratic weather patterns and protecting the environment.
Visit to the Automatic Weather Station and Exhibition
A special visit to the Automatic Weather Station (AWS), located at Energy Park, was organised for students. Dr Chaudhary provided in-depth insights into the scientific instruments and sensors used for weather monitoring.
During the visit, a special presentation explained how the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) collects weather data through AWS and analyses it to make accurate forecasts.
Additionally, engaging educational activities were conducted, including:
• Understanding weather testing methods
• Technology-driven weather forecasting
• Functioning of various meteorological instruments and sensors
• Discussions on climate change and environmental conservation
Students gained hands-on experience with advanced weather forecasting tools such as Doppler radar, satellite imaging, pilot balloons, and other cutting-edge meteorological equipment.
An Inspirational Learning Experience for Students
The celebration of World Meteorological Day and the interactive activities successfully ignited students’ interest in meteorology. Many expressed a keen desire to explore weather and environmental sciences in greater depth.
